Cavendish at a Glance
Located in the heart of Anne's Land, the north coast of Prince
Edward Island, Cavendish was the hometown of and setting for Lucy Maud Montgomery's
beloved Anne of Green Gables books. It's no surprise then that Cavendish is home
to the Green Gables House, the site of Montgomery's childhood home, and Avonlea
village–an historical amusement park. The area is also famed for Cavendish
Beach, whose white sand beaches and dunes cover nearly 40 km (24.8 mi) of
coast in Prince Edward Island National Park, a bird-watcher's paradise. Outdoor
activities in Cavendish generally move at a gentle pace. Hiking and walking tours
are extremely popular and the region boasts several champion golf courses. At
a slightly faster clip, bicyclists criss-cross nearby national parks and sailing
on the sea's water is a common sight. Other Cavendish attractions include the
Cavendish Red Trolley, Cavendish Boardwalk, an amusement park, several museums,
mini-golf courses and plenty of shopping.
